String Lessons & Orchestra

Hi Hillside Music Families,

My name is Ms. Jordana Schaeffer, and I am thrilled to be your new Strings teacher at Hillside! I will be at Hillside for 3rd and 4th grade strings every Day 3, and will rotate around the other elementary schools.

Most recently, I taught elementary strings and band in the Coatesville Area School District. Music is something I truly love, and I am excited to share this joy and make music with your wonderful students.

GENERAL INFORMATION

All students that register will have a STRING LESSON once a cycle, and also be part of ORCHESTRA

String Lessons

Small group instruction that teaches students how to play their instruments, as well as skills and techniques

• String Lessons meet during the school day on the same CYCLE day for the entire school year
• Lesson times rotate each cycle so students do not miss the same class each week
• Lessons start during the second cycle of school

Orchestra Rehearsals

Large group instruction that prepares the students for the Winter and/or Spring Concert

• Meet before school on the same cycle day as lessons
  • Drop off begins at 8:15am and rehearsals go until 9:00am
• 2 performing groups:
  • ENCORE Orchestra 
    • Includes students that have played their instrument for at least one full year
    • Students perform in the Winter and Spring Concert
    • Rehearsals start during the 3rd cycle of school
  • PRELUDE Orchestra -
    • Includes all beginner students and ALL students in 3rd grade
    • Students perform in the Spring Concert
    • Rehearsals start in January
